This plant-based burger is made from wheat protein, coconut oil, potato protein and heme that gives the meat substitute its distinctive blood-like color and taste. Although the use of heme has been controversial in terms of safety, FDA has deemed it "generally recognized as safe".
But how healthy is it? Saturated fats are a key component of burgers, which health experts recommend we cut back on, but the impossible burger has more than twice the amount of saturated fat as burgers due to the addition of coconut oil. It also has more than seven times the amount of sodium as compared to an unseasoned beef patty.
However, unlike burgers, it contains no cholesterol, and the biggest health advantage the non-meat burgers have over beef burgers is skipping out on the particular risks associated with consuming too much red meat.

This plant based burger is made from four main ingredients: water, pea protein isolate, canola oil, and refined coconut oil. It has less con coconut oil than the impossible burger making it lower in saturated fat.
